Block Hourly Cost Summary (#160) |
You are looking for a report that will summarize your hourly costs and productivity on a block. This report is particularly useful for those loggers who track the machine that performs each activity on each load ticket. The report allows you to analyze your (1) production per hour and (2) cost per unit of production using your fully found rates. These measures can be compared against a block target or budget to see how well you are performing on each phase of operation.
Focus of Report is to provide a detailed analysis of the costs and production, by machine, on a block-by-block basis. The report also shows an overall profit/loss picture for a block.
The selection window allows you to filter the report by:

The selection criteria determine the blocks that will appear in the report.
For each block, the columns are as follows:
Main Panel:
The main report panel shows the detailed hours and costs worked by each machine on the block. The details allow you to identify potential problems with the block or with possible data entry problems. The details are summarized and provide you with a cost per hour and per unit of production (M3) for each activity recorded for the block.
The main panel is split into two parts: one for activities tracked on tickets and a second for activities not tracked on tickets. Each row shows the detailed cost and production for each equipment unit.
Panel 2:
The second panel shows four data summaries:
(1) A phase-by-phase breakdown of the costs on a per unit of volume basis;
(2) A breakdown of loads, volume and costs by truck type;
(3) A breakdown of loads and volume by species; and
(3) A breakdown of loads and volume by sort (or stratum), depending on your configuration.

The phase-by-phase breakdown first shows the revenue rates, by phase. These are the rates you are paid. The activity costs are then shown on a phase by phase basis. These rates should match those detailed in the main panel above. The bottom line shows your margin, expressed on a per unit of volume basis (e.g. $/M3). In the example above, the block earned a logging rate of $24.99 and a trucking rate of $8.42 for a total rate of $33.41. The total activity cost, per M3, is $21.50 yielding a profit of $11.92 per M3 (= $33.41 - $21.50). Please excuse us, we just make the numbers up.
Note that in the distribution of loads by truck type, the report provides a breakdown for contractor trucks as well as your own trucks. The cost of your own trucks is based on the fully found truck cost that you have set up under Setup | Equipment / Trucks | Trucks | Truck Costing.
Panel 3:
The third panel summarizes the profitability of the block:

The left side of the panel shows a block profit and loss statement and the right side summarizes the production.
The rows in the P&L summary are as follows:
1. Load Revenue: Revenue paid to you by the mill(s) derived from loads for activities/phases not including the Trucking phase. This line also excludes activities that are coded as 'is pay like trucking'.
2. Truck Revenue: Revenue paid to you by the mill(s) derived from loads for the Trucking phase and for activities that are coded as 'is pay like trucking', such as trucking fuel adjustments.
3. Other Revenue. This row includes all other revenue for the block that is not derived from load tickets. For example, this could include revenue for activities that are billed hourly or for miscellaneous income entries.
4. Total Revenue: The sum of Load Revenue, Truck Revenue, and Other Revenue.
5. Cost - Own Equipment. The Fully Found cost of your own equipment. This number should tie to the total for 'Fully Founded Equip Cost' in the main panel above. This cost excludes trucking (and 'is pay like trucking') costs. These costs are reported in a separate line below.
6. Cost - SubCntr Equipment. The cost of sub contractor-owned equipment. This number should tie to the total for 'Actual Cost (Sub Equip)' in the main panel above. This cost excludes trucking (and 'is pay like trucking') costs. These costs are reported in a separate line below.
7. Cost - Trucking. This is the total cost for trucking and 'is pay like trucking' activities. This cost includes the fully found cost for your own trucks and the cost of your sub contractor owned trucks. This amount should tie to the product of the truck rate and the M3 amount shown in Panel 2 above.
8. Other Contractor Cost. Costs included here are:
i. Contractor Pay for Contractor
Production Tickets where the equipment is contractor-owned or the
equipment is 'NONE'.
ii. Contractor Pay for Employee Production
Tickets where the equipment is contractor-owned (i.e. Rental
Equipment)
iii. Contractor Pay for Contractor Production
Tickets for trucking (and is pay like trucking) where the truck is
contractor-owned or the equipment is 'NONE'.
iv. Contractor Pay for Contractor Production
Tickets where truck and equipment are 'NONE' (e.g. Travel)
9. Other Contr Cost (Loads). This line includes pay to contractors for loads where the equipment is 'NONE' for non-trucking and trucking activities. (This line is not shown in the example above and only appears if it is non-zero.)
10. Other Employee Cost. Costs included here
are:
i. Employee Pay for Employee
Production Tickets where the equipment is contractor-owned or the
equipment is 'NONE'.
ii. Employee Pay for Employee Production
Tickets for trucking (and is pay like trucking) where the truck is
contractor-owned or the truck is 'NONE'.
iii. Employee Pay for Employee Production Tickets
where truck and equipment are 'NONE' (e.g. Travel)
11. Other Employee Cost (Loads). This line includes pay to employees for loads where the equipment is 'NONE' for non-trucking and trucking activities. (This line is not shown in the example above and only appears if it is non-zero.)
12. Miscellaneous Costs. All miscellaneous expenses (contractor & employee) coded to the block.
13. Total Cost: The sum of all the cost items (5 - 12 above).
14. Total Profit/Loss: Total Revenue less Total Cost.
15: Gross Margin: Profit/Loss divided by the Total Revenue. This measure provides a standardized measure as to the economic performance of the block.
For each of the above items, the values are also displayed on a 'per volume' and 'per weight' basis.
