Do you pay your employees different rates for different activities? For example, do you pay travel time at a different rate than other time? If the answer is YES, then you can set up pay differentials by activity. Go to Setup | Workers | Employee Activity Rates from the Main Menu. Pick the employee and the activity -- travel, loading, felling, etc. Enter the effective date. This is the date that the differential takes effect. The Pay Rate Differential is the amount of the differential. The amount can be positive -- meaning a positive differential. The amount can also be negative. The checkbox tells the system whether your entry is a percentage entry or not. If not, it is considered a dollar entry. The 'Rate Type' tells the system to apply the differential to the base rate for that specific rate type -- e.g. the hourly rate or the day rate.
Example 1. You pay travel at one-half a guy's base rate. You would enter -50.00 and check the 'Percent' checkbox. This entry tells the system to pay the guy at his base rate less 50 percent (= 50 percent of his rate). Thus, if a guy has a base rate of $20.00/Hr, he would be paid at $10.00 per hour for travel.
Example 2. You pay a premium of $1.00/hr for felling. You would enter 1.00 and leave the 'Percent' checkbox unchecked. This entry tells the system to pay the guy at his base rate plus $1.00. Thus, if a guy has a base rate of $20.00/Hr, he would receive $21.00 for felling.
Special Feature: You can set up a differential for an 'ALL' employee, meaning that the differential will apply to ALL employees for that activity. In the example below, note that the 'ALL' employee is being paid a $1.00 differential for Felling -- thus, all employees will get an extra dollar added to the pay for felling. If you also setup a rate for a specific employee, that specific rate will trump the 'ALL' rate. In the example below, employee 'DL' will get a $2.00 differential; everyone else will get $1.00.
