Select Setup | Workers | Worker Setup from the Main Menu. Select the Tab 'Employee Base Rates'. In the grid, you enter the employees base pay rate in the Rate column. The 'Rate Type' column determines the pay basis. The entry 'HR' means the rate applies against employee hours; the entry 'TREE_VOL' means the rate applies against tree volume (= tree count x volume per tree). In order to pay an employee by tree volume, you would enter a rate with a basis of 'TREE_VOL'. This is the general rate that applies to the employee's tree volume. You set the effective date for the rate -- the date at which the employee starts to be paid at the rate. If an employee gets a raise, you make another entry with the date at which the raise takes effect. For example, in the screen below, there is a rate of $1.00 effective 1/1/2004.
The Loaded Rate is used in costing reports that rely on the employee's loaded rate, instead of his direct pay rate, to calculate payroll costs.
The Charge Out Rate is used when you need to bill time to customers. It is the rate you charge your customers -- not what you pay your employees
The Rate Type must be set to 'TREE_VOL' in order to pay guys by the tree volume.
Note: If you also enter a rate type of 'HR', that rate will also be applied. Thus, if a time slip has both hours and tree volume, both will be paid. This result may or may not be intended. In order to avoid paying by the hour (if this is not intended), you can remove the hourly rate from the base rate grid or enter 0.0 as the hours on the employee's time slip.
