How To: Manage Fuel Rebate

1.  Background

Some provinces, such as BC and AB, provide fuel rebates for off highway travel.  There is a government form that beneficiaries of the rebates must complete to receive the rebates.  The forms require that the beneficiaries track the number of deliveries from a given starting point to a given destination, and the on and off highway distance between those two points.  In BC, beneficiaries must also distinguish between whether the loads are hauled by a self-loader or regular trucks.  The Logger's Edge allows you set up off- and on-highway distances for each block - destination combination.  These distances are combined with load data to compute the total on and off highway mileage for your trucks.

2.  Steps Involved

Activate Fuel Rebate Module

The Logger’s Edge has a setting in Basic Setup to enable the Fuel Rebate module (on the Trucking tab).

Setting this setting to “enable” will have three effects:

1.    There will be a distance setup screen as the next-to-last step in the block setup wizard that will look like this:

The distances entered in the grid are the one-way distances.  When you run the report, The Logger's Edge will multiply the distance by two (2) in order to calculate the round-trip on and off highway distances.  This methodology may be inaccurate for the first and last trip of the day for a truck as the distance to and from home (or wherever the truck is parked) may differ significantly from the block or mill.

2.    The TRUCK_TYPES table will have a field that will need to be enabled called IS_SELF_LOADER

3. There will be another report in the reporting tool (which will deployed as rptBCFuelRebate (#610)).

When users have this functionality enabled, they will:

1.    Set up a row in the new block distance window during block setup for each block/destination combination.
2.    Indicate whether a given truck configuration is self-loading or not.
3.    Enter loads.
4.    Run the new Fuel Rebate report.   (The report does not depend on the calculators being run first.)

The basic report is run in summary mode.  There is also a load-by-load version of the report that provides the detailed supporting data for each load.  This detailed backup may be useful to include with your filing.

The functionality will be enabled for any user that purchases the module.  The price for this module is a one-time fee of $500.
