The Logger's Edge provides the ability to pay activities or phases like trucking, when the phase itself is not trucking. Now why would I want to do that? There are certain phases, for example fuel adjustments or loading (for self-loading trucks) where you want to pay the trucking contractor, but you want to split out the payments separately instead of using a blended trucking rate. In The Logger's Edge you can pay contractors for phases other than trucking based on the owner of the truck on the load slip.
The functionality in The Logger's Edge allows you to set a base trucking rate, but then add on a fuel adjustment that might vary by month, for example. Thus, you can keep a set rate for trucking with one effective date, and change your fuel adjustment rate over time by entering a new effective date for each new rate.
2. Steps Involved
Enable Pay As Trucking Field for Pay Activities
The data field 'IS_PAY_LIKE_TRUCKING' needs to be added to the Pay Activities table:

Identify Activities that you want to 'Pay like Trucking'
In the pay activities table, you should select the activities you want to pay like trucking. In the screen below, I have added fuel adjustment and self loading as activities I want to pay like trucking.

Do
not change the 'pay like trucking' flag for the actual trucking phase.
The pay like trucking flag means that when you run the pay calculator, the non-trucking activity will be paid to the same contractor who is actually paid for trucking. That is, if XYZ contractor is paid for the trucking on a load, he will also be paid for the fuel adjustment and for self-loading.
Add Phases/Activities to be paid on the Block
For each of the 'is pay like trucking activities' you still must set up rates and add them to each block to which they apply. The set up the pay rates depends on the type of block set up your system is configured to use.
A. One-Stop Block Setup
If you are using the 'one-stop' block set up you will need to open the set up wizard and enter your pay rates on the contractor pay screen:

You can enter your pay like trucking activities and the rates that apply. The pay basis can be the same or it can be different from the basis actually used to pay trucking. Also, you can use the 'Owner' wildcard for the contractor, indicating that you want to pay the truck owner for the activity, regardless of who that contractor is. This simply avoids the step of having to set up a rate for each possible hauling contractor on the block.
B. Standard Block Setup
In the standard block set up, you will first need to tell The Logger's Edge that you want to pay the activities performed on the block:

In the block set up wizard you check the activities that should be paid.
Next, you need to set up the relevant pay rates in the pay contract wizard:

In the pay contract wizard, you can enter your pay like trucking activities and the rates that apply. Again, the pay basis can be the same or it can be different from the basis actually used to pay trucking. Also, you can use the 'Owner' wildcard for the contractor, indicating that you want to pay the truck owner for the activity, regardless of who that contractor is. This simply avoids the step of having to set up a rate for each possible hauling contractor on the block.
Example Load Slip:
On your load slips, the owner of the truck entered on the slip will be paid for each of the 'pay like trucking' activities. In this example, the owner of truck M100 will be paid for trucking, fuel adjustment and self-loading.

Run Pay and Create Statements
Once you have set up your pay rates, you are good to go. Your next step will be run the vendor calculator. Once the calculator has been run you can review your vendor statements:

The statement for each truck owner will show the payments for each 'pay like trucking' activity as a separate line for each load.
The formatted vendor statement summary page will summarize the payments for each 'pay like trucking' activity so that you can readily see how much is paid for each discreet activity - trucking, fuel adjustment, self loading, etc.
